Job Description
The main duties of this position are the management of the Sow Unit. Support with research projects and production at the Illinois State University Farm and within the Department of Agriculture at Illinois State University is a requirement.
Additional Information
The University Farm in Lexington, IL is home to 100 beef cattle, 45 head of sheep, 85 swine, 440 acres of crop production, a waste treatment center used for composting and 13-acres of sub-surface irrigation. Approximately 300,000 tons of compost are available to use for crop production and is for sale to the public. Along with the 440 acres farmed in Lexington, there are 165-acres in Normal, IL.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Possession of a valid Illinois vehicle operator’s license(s).
3. Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the categories below:
A. Coursework in agriculture, animal science, crop science, environmental science, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
B. General agricultural experience as appropriate performing general animal, livestock or related farming duties.
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
