Job Description

A Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for understanding current and future business processes and needs. He/she works with customers and users to define and document business needs and requirements utilizing business knowledge obtained through industry experience and training to identify business requirements and expectations for the creation of solutions.

The BA must analyze and synthesize information provided by a large number of people who interact with the business, such as customers, staff, IT professionals, and executives. The BA is responsible for eliciting the actual needs of stakeholders, not simply their expressed desires. In many cases, the BA also will work to facilitate communication between organizational units. In particular, BA's often play a central role in aligning the needs of business units with the capabilities delivered by information technology, and may serve as a "translator" between those groups.

The Business Analyst is responsible for requirements development and requirements management. Specifically, analyze, validate and document business, organizational and/or operational requirements.


Qualifications

1. Bachelor's Degree
2. Minimum of 3 years' experience working as a Business Analyst in an IT environment
3. Experience eliciting requirements, writing use cases, facilitating meetings, documenting notes, creating deliverables, and establishing good relationships
4. Must possess ability to identify issues and risks to a project early and escalate to management
5. Able to quickly understand complex issues, and break them down into smaller pieces
6. Comfortable interacting with diverse groups of people, from end users to executives
7. Able to facilitate meetings in non-threatening manner to meet participants at their level of understanding
8. Able to drive discussions to a decision
9. Possess excellent documentation skills
10. Able to think outside the box
11. Able to multi-task, and manage multiple deadlines and tasks to drive the project to completion
12. Team player with good listening, communication and collaboration skills
13. Requires excellent facilitation and customer service skills
14. Ability to build collaborative relationships with a variety of Academic and Administrative employees
15. Must have strong coaching, teaching, facilitating, and organizational skills
16. Must possess and demonstrate excellent analytical and critical skills to assess situations, troubleshoot, and make recommendations from both strategic and tactical perspectives
17. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
