Job Description

This position develops, enhances, and maintains network management, monitoring, and alerting systems that support the operational activities of ISUnet. This position is also a primary WAN, VPN, and firewall administrator, and may be called upon to assist with the LAN.


Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Management, or related field from an accredited institution
OR
At least 100 semester hours in an Information Technology related field (verified by transcript) AND 1 year of progressively more responsible work experience in IT related position. Bachelor's Degree must be obtained by May 2018 in order to be considered.
2. Demonstrable experience relating to network infrastructure/architecture, Ethernet, routing protocols, and Internet connectivity.
3. Demonstrable experience and an understanding of wired and wireless LAN connectivity.
4. Demonstrable experience and a basic understanding of wired and wireless security issues.
5. Demonstrable experience with cabling systems (STP, UDP, and fiber optic), network topologies, TCP/IP, Ethernet, and corresponding hardware and software components (switches, routers, transceivers, access points, etc.).
6. Demonstrable experience working with network drawings, cable plant drawings, as well as technical manuals and materials.
7. Proficient spreadsheet and word processing skills.
Clear understanding of desktop and network operating systems (such as Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10, and Macintosh OS X) and applications.
8. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
10. Strong problem solving and analytic skills
11. Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundation Certification within 4 months of hire.
12. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, then employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.
