Job Description

The Library Teaching Assistant supports the work of Thomas Metcalf Elementary School through duties in learning and providing instruction, information access, and library program administration.

This position is subject to academic break layoff, late-May through mid-August.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Any combination totaling two years (24 months) from the following categories:
a. work experience in a library or equivalent setting.
b. college course work in any field as measured by the following conversion table
- 30 semester hours equals one year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals 18 months
- 90 semester hours equals two years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three years (36 months)
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of children's literature.
Experience working with and/or providing instruction to children.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Artistic and creative characteristics.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Basic technical skills and proficiency in packages similar to and including Microsoft products, Google products, OPAC or scheduling product/service-oriented software, and electronic devices such as an iPad.


Salary

$20.12 - $20.77 per hour

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
