Job Description

The Data Warehouse Developer will be involved in all aspects of data analysis, data acquisition, profiling, database design, source-to-target maps, testing, and all technical meta data documentation related to data modeling for new solutions and the ongoing maintenance of existing ones. S/he will also be involved in all aspects of the analysis, design, development, testing, and all technical meta data documentation related to ETL for new solutions and the ongoing maintenance of existing ones. The Data Warehouse Developer will also be responsible for contributing to and upholding departmental data modeling and ETL standards in practice and in appropriate documentation.

In addition the Data Warehouse Developer will have responsibilities related to ETL deployments as well as the ongoing administration of Informatica or any future ETL tools.

The individual(s) in this role work as a member of the Office of Decision Support-EDA team as well as university staff in support of business intelligence to support and promote data usage within the University community.

There is the potential for 100% remote work in this position, within the State of Illinois. Eligibility is based upon employee performance, appropriate remote working environment, and business needs.

The Enterprise Data and Analytics (EDA) team provides a strong business intelligence environment that helps the University make informed and strategic decisions. This groups manages the Enterprise Data Warehouse and provides data access and training.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) of full time (or part time equivalent) from the following categories:
a. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)

b. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.

3. One (1) year (12 months) of full time (or part time equivalent) experience performing the following:
a. Authoring SQL, Python, or R
b. Data discovery, data profiling/analysis, or data modeling
c. Modifying, creating, or analyzing relational and dimensional data structures
d. Software testing including creating test plans, creating test cases, test execution, and documenting defects
e. Collecting technical requirements
f. Integrating data between systems using API technology
g. Working with relational database concepts, queries (SQL), and ability to use 1 or more common query/reporting tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports)
h. Developing and debugging Software
i. Programming and/or authoring complex data integration scripts

4. Basic knowledge of ETL mappings and workflows
5. Basic knowledge of Business Intelligence and data warehousing
6. Strong customer service skills along with a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process, and product quality and reliability.
7. Strong problem-solving ability
8. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to conduct internal and external meetings

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience designing/developing enterprise ETL mappings and workflows with a tool such as Informatica PowerCenter, AWS Glue, Microsoft SSIS, Oracle ODI, or similar
2. Experience in development and support of a Business Intelligence or data warehousing initiative


Salary

$65,000 - $70,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions.
