Job Description

The PeopleSoft Developer/Analyst works within a team environment and will be responsible for the technical analysis, design, development, coding, testing, and support of software applications for the PeopleSoft systems, including Human Capital Management (HCM) and Campus Solutions (CS).

Technical Duties include but are not limited to:

Performing software engineering both long-term and day-to-day maintenance as well as provide technical analysis around how we use and should adopt and/or modify various functionalities.
Perform technical support & incident management providing subject-matter expertise on database best practices.
Provide proactive analysis including ad-hoc queries for analysis, reporting, and tuning.
Create, maintain, and update system and configuration specific documentation like environment diagrams, security, and integration mappings.
Perform core and integration testing of all planned changes.

The Application Services (APPS) team develops, administers, and delivers quality application services to the University. They work on enterprise and business applications, such as PeopleSoft, Canvas, and others.

Position Highlights:
There is the potential for 100% remote work or a hybrid arrangement in this position, within the state of Illinois. Illinois residency is required. Eligibility is based upon employee performance, appropriate remote working environment, and business needs.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Any one or any combination totaling two years (24 months) from the following categories:
a. College coursework which includes Information Technology, IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one year (12 months)
- 60 semester hours or Associate’s degree equals 18 months
- 90 semester hours equals two years (24 months)
- Bachelor's or higher degree equals three years (36 months)
b. Progressively more responsible work experience in a technical related profession
Experience in performing technical duties such as gathering requirements; writing use cases; creating, configuring, and testing technical deliverables; utilizing server-based tools (such as App Designer, Data Mover, and SQL Developer); and/or creating technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced degree in an IT or related field
Experience which includes the following:
a. Collecting technical requirements and designing appropriate process and/or software solutions
b. Developing and debugging software
c. Software testing including creating test plans, creating test cases, test execution, and documenting defects
d. Experience with source control, defect management, and incident management software tools
e. Experience in higher education administrative systems
f. Designing, creating, building, testing, troubleshooting PeopleSoft delivered, modified, and add on programs
The following skills and/or abilities:
a. Strong analysis, research, and time management skills
b. Strong customer service skills along with a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.
c. Strong problem-solving ability
d. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to conduct internal and external meetings
e. Work independently and in a team environment with good communication and collaboration skills.
f. Clearly communicate complex technical concepts verbally and in writing to management, technical staff, and customers in terms appropriate for each audience
g. Analyze large amounts of detailed information, quickly understand complex issues, and break information down into smaller pieces more manageable pieces
h. Leverage Microsoft Visio, and Excel
i. Adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements
j. Accurately estimate development work effort
Understanding of relational database concepts, queries (SQL), and ability to use 1 or more common query/reporting tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports)
Knowledge of other web related technologies useful: XML/XSL, CSS
An interest in learning new tools and methods
Formal Training classes on PeopleSoft Tools and technology


Salary

$60,000 - $75,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
