Job Description
The Coordinator, Alternative Breaks will support the Illinois State University award winning Alternative Breaks program by advising 25-35 student leaders to plan and execute service-based trips primarily over winter break, spring break, and summer break. These trips occur locally, nationally, and internationally. In addition, this individual will advise the Alternative Breaks Executive Board to plan and execute program-wide training and education and will support other CCE service and civic education programs.

The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is a unique department with responsibilities that support the missions of the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Academic Affairs. The department is responsible for enacting Illinois State’s commitment to civic engagement and fostering a culture that values and rewards civic engagement. This is accomplished through the coordination of a variety of programs and services with and for students, faculty, and staff and in partnership with Bloomington-Normal community organizations. CCE organizes work around civic engagement including volunteering and service-learning, political engagement, and civic education.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s or equivalent degree conferred prior to position start date
At least two years of experience with service-learning, Alternative Breaks, and/or volunteer programs.
The following skills and/or abilities:
a. Strong time management skills
b. Strong problem-solving skills
c. Ability to be flexible and adapt with a positive attitude
d. Strong oral and written communication skills
e. Ability to be student-centered and supports an equitable and diverse environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
Experience directly overseeing or planning Alternative Breaks
Salary
$53,000 annual, combined with an excellent benefits package
