Position Summary:
Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a full-time Director of Strategic Communications. This position, reporting to the Director of Advancement Operations, will work in collaboration with advancement and other university colleagues to support fundraising priorities and the advancement of relationships with key constituents through the creation of communication pieces, including emails, impact reports, web content, EIU stories, online content, and more.

This position will manage projects and create content that engages our alumni and donors, strengthens our brand, tells our story, and connects our constituents to opportunities to support EIU.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Public relations projects for both EIU Advancement and, as needed, EIU’s President.
Speech writing, PowerPoint creation, and press release drafting.
Develop, write, edit, and review a wide variety of content types, including letters, emails, web content, marketing copy, and articles that inspire broad-based constituent engagement and philanthropy.
Create content for comprehensive fundraising campaign as well as provide support as needed for annual day of giving and other micro-campaigns.
As required for EIU’s campaign(s), work in collaboration with EIU Marketing Communications on rebranding initiatives.
Create and maintain an annual comprehensive advancement communications calendar.
Serve as the first point of contact for all mass communications projects to alumni and donors.
Create an advancement communications routing process to ensure all materials and proposals are approved by university subject matter experts as needed.
In collaboration with advancement colleagues, ensure all relevant constituents and data-driven populations are included in all relevant communication pieces.
As needed, create content for donor proposals, stewardship projects, impact reports, engagement events, commencement, video and web projects, newsletters, and more.
Work with EIU’s Marketing Communications office to ensure all advancement work adheres to all brand and style requirements.
Serve as primary liaison to EIU Marketing Communications for social media, PR, and other projects, ensuring donor and engagement stories are well positioned across all communication channels.
Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the success of the department and University’s mission.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution.
A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of five years of professional experience in higher education advancement, marketing, public relations, communications, copy writing, or related field.
Experience in higher education advancement.
Campaign experience.
Project management or content calendar coordination experience.
Experience with content management systems.
Salary
$5,750 - $6,250 monthly
