Job Description

The Assistant Director Curriculum promotes social justice in their administrative and programmatic leadership for the Julia N. Visor Academic Center of University College and as a member of the leadership team for University College. The Assistant Director works with the University College leadership team, employees of the Visor Center, and campus constituents to determine, establish, and implement goals and strategic plans for the Visor Center/University College. The Assistant Director hires (in cooperation with the Associate Director and Director of University College), develops, and supervises undergraduate and graduate student employees in the Visor Center, as well as select campus units, through culturally relevant pedagogy. The Assistant Director works with multiple external campus constituencies in achieving these objectives.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Master's Degree (preferred in Education, College Student Personnel or related field). Transcript (may be unofficial)

2. Two (2) years of full time (or part time equivalent) work experience in higher education or a related field.

3. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and produce quality work under deadlines.

4. Outstanding organizational skills.

5. Demonstrated flexibility in a changing administrative model.

6. Working knowledge of office software (word, spreadsheets, student information systems, databases, etc.).

7. Knowledge of learning theory, instruction, and study skills methods, particularly for students in transition and underrepresented populations.

8. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to effectively make public presentations.

9. Ability and experience demonstrating the ability to work inclusively with minoritized populations of students, peers, and public.

10. Demonstrated experience in working with students, faculty, departmental staff and campus administrators as well as off-campus contacts.

11. Ability to develop and improve curricular offerings of University College.

12. Knowledge of instructional methods for, and student development theory of, students in transition, particularly FTIC and transfer students.

13. Supervisory and/or training experience.

14. Ability to work independently and without intense supervision, but also effectively contribute to a leadership team with a learner-centered and service-oriented philosophy.

15. Excellent interpersonal skills including listening and teamwork.

16. Ability to make complex decisions considering impact, solve problems, and communicate with those impacted.

Preferred Qualifications
1. College level teaching experience

2. Familiarity with Illinois State University and University College policies and procedures and state and federal law, in particular the Ethics Standards for all employees of the State of Illinois.


Salary

$62,500-$69,500/annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.

Illinois State University is authorized to do business within the State of Illinois. All work under this appointment is required to be performed from within the State of Illinois. If hired, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days from the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois driver’s license or a valid State of Illinois ID card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
