Job Description
Under general direction, this position provides comprehensive guidance to faculty and staff on employee benefit and insurance programs and is responsible for administering leaves of absence. The role ensures benefits and leaves are managed in accordance with applicable laws and University policies and in coordination with external partners such as Central Management Services and the State Universities Retirement System.
This role requires a strong understanding of University policies and relevant legislation, including the FMLA, ADA, and PWFA. Equally important, it calls for a high level of compassion, professionalism, and customer service, as the Benefits Counselor supports employees through important and often sensitive life events.
The Benefits Counselor collaborates closely with others within Human Resources and University departments such as Payroll and Equal Opportunity and Access to ensure the accurate and effective delivery of services.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. Any one or any combination totaling eighteen (18) months from the following categories:
A. college coursework in human resource management, business administration, social sciences, or a closely related field:
-30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
-Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
-90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
-Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. work experience performing clerical or paraprofessional duties related to benefits and/or insurance benefits, insurance retirement, healthcare, or human resources.
2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience comparable to that performed at the Benefits Officer level of this series.
