Job Description

The function of this position is to perform accounting work that applies knowledge of theory and practice of recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing documents and records of financial transactions and leading tax and reporting compliance efforts.

The individual will be technology-driven and provide leadership to identify best practices and consistently implement process improvements.

Additional Information
This position requires a skilled understanding in database structure and the ability to manipulate data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis. Knowledge and experience with journal entries, financial statement preparation, and general accounting concepts are also required. The ability to effectively research, present ideas and concepts in written or presentation format and use consultative and facilitation skills to gain consensus is also necessary.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree with a major in Accountancy or a related field.
2. (A) Two years of professional level accounting experience. OR
(B) Possession of a current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or a valid
License to practice Public Accounting (LPA), OR
(C) Master's degree in Accountancy or a related field.
3. One (1) full year (or part-time equivalent) of professional level tax and/or accounting experience.

1. Demonstrated analytical, written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting to management and/or senior leadership
2. Demonstrated computer skills with Microsoft Office applications
3. Demonstrated experience with designing and executing strategy-based financial analyses
4. Demonstrated ability to be well organized, flexible, and manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
5. Collaborative working style and ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels of the organization
6. Demonstrated experience working with financial reporting
7. Demonstrated ability to display initiative, work independently, and as a member of a team
8. Demonstrated ability to exercise confidentiality and discretion
9. Demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly
10. Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy under tight deadlines.
11. Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.


Salary

$60,000 – $75,000/annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.

Illinois State University is authorized to do business within the State of Illinois. All work under this appointment is required to be performed from within the State of Illinois. If hired, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days from the start date for this position. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois driver’s license or a valid State of Illinois ID card. Failure to produce the required documentation within 180 calendar days will result in immediate termination of employment.
