Job Description

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has an immediate opening for a Senior Database Administrator who will manage and maintain agency databases in production, UAT, and development environments. The person selected will be responsible for logical and physical design, integrity, creation, maintenance, backup, recovery, security, availability, and disaster recovery.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Protect and support the production of SQL server databases, including responsibility for successful database imaging, backup, and recovery.
• Monitor and respond to database growth, performance, and efficiencies.
• Provide technical consultation and support to applications developers. This includes providing expertise in database access, assistance in interpreting database errors or problems, assistance in constructing test databases, and participating in applications design and code reviews.
• Develop and document standards, guidelines, and practices for database use, control, recovery, and protection.
• Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
A. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT
systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its
proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. Work experience in IT-related functions, hardware/software support, programming, network design,
network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
3. In addition, a minimum of 3 years as a SQL Server Database Administrator, with direct involvement in support of High Availability in SQL Server is required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in designing and supporting data warehouses.
• Experience with metadata management and knowledge of data modeling.
• Proficiency in physical SQL server database design.
• Proficiency in SQL utilities, including backup, recovery, and re-org utilities.
• Proficiency in SQL archive and recovery strategy, load strategy design and implementation.
• Proficiency in SQL Server security.
• Knowledge of and experience with large SQL databases.
• Knowledge of entity relationship modeling.
• Knowledge of business analysis and logical database design.
• Knowledge of data integration principles and methods.
• Knowledge of applications programming, including both batch and online techniques.
• Knowledge of programming processes and procedures required for analysis, design, coding, and testing of applications programs.
• Knowledge of ODBC database access.


Salary

Minimum Salary: $100,000 per year
