Title of Position: PROGRAM ASSISTANT - AUDIENCE DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Department: TARBLE ARTS CENTER (TAC) Reports to: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
The audience development manager is an integral position at the museum, ensuring a positive visitor experience with a goal of fostering a desire for further engagement with the museum on multiple levels. As a member of the senior leadership team, the audience development manager is a wellspring of information, all of which is found by active participation with the museum’s programming and initiatives. They act as the leading visitor experience champion across the organization, collaborating and enlisting the active support of staff throughout the institution while advocating for visitors with diverse interests, abilities, and needs as well as managing and developing the museum’s membership program.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Deliver an effective, responsive, and positive visitor experience, managing all visitor services including visit planning, way finding, exhibition and artist information, membership sales and data collection/reporting on visitor feedback
• Address any patron issues and questions as well as any facilities and security issues that arise during open hours
• Ensure compliance with museum visitor protocol and safety of all art objects on display
• Recruit, train, schedule, and mentor student staff including oversight of all aspects of Gallery Attendant and Volunteer program
• Approve student timesheets
• Work with senior staff to organize special events and programs and manage all logistical set up for events including bar and catering services.
• Organize and oversee group reservations and school field trips.
• Support marketing plans for increasing museum visits
• Collect, assemble, and analyze visitor data, and prepare and deliver reports to project and track attendance records.
• Provide information for the preparation of grant proposals including visitor research and evaluation activities.
• Assist with grant writing when appropriate
• Participate in strategic meetings both within the museum and through local organizations that support audience development
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
• Work with EIU’s Foundation to manage meticulous Membership records and ensure benefits reach paid members.
• Staff galleries when appropriate and staff all programs and special events, including some weekend and evening hours.Bachelor’s Degree required (preferable areas of study: communications, museum studies, studio art, art history, creative writing, interactive media, journalism, marketing, analytics, or a related field)
• Customer service experience and a strong track record of providing excellent customer service preferably in an arts environment and the ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships with staff, volunteers, and members of the public
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and database applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Exceptional interpersonal, managerial and organizational skills
• Superior language and writing skills in English
