Job Description

The Assistant Director Athletic Communications will serve as the primary media contact for Illinois State Women’s Basketball and Women’s Soccer. The incumbent will work under broad policy guidance, exercising sound judgment when making critical decisions under varying degrees of pressure. Incumbent will actively participate in game day operations, utilize creative freedom to create engaging media coverage, produce creative social media content that is engaging and assists in recruiting, and participate in the pitching and writing of feature stories about coaches, student-athletes, and staff. This individual will also oversee student assistants and serve as a liaison to other Athletic Department units.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in sports communication, sports marketing, sports management, public relations, mass communications, journalism, English or related field.
2. Two (2) years of full-time or part-time equivalent professional level work experience in Professional Athletics or Intercollegiate Athletics communications/sports information.
3. Familiarity with NCAA Live Stats.
4. Strong communication skills and social media content creation background.
5. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and social media platforms.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Master’s Degree
2. Experience in writing and editing


Salary

$40,000 - $42,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.

If hired, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days from the start date for this position.
