Job Description
The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.
The Assistant Technical Director assists with the execution and management of all phases of event production in Braden Auditorium, Bone Student Center, and other University facilities as assigned. Additionally, assists with the oversight and execution of all daily event production technical functions. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Reviews and implements the day of show production schedule. Serve as customer, patron, and departmental liaison for production needs.
- Assists with the supervision of IATSE stage employees.
- Performs Stage Management duties as assigned, including execution of event schedules, breaks, calling cues, and providing excellent customer service.
- Install and maintain lighting, sound, audio-visual equipment, and other production equipment as directed.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues.
- Performs preventive maintenance programs.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of equipment purchases and projects.
- Set up, tear down, and operations of audio/video systems, sound consoles, and microphones.
- Operates rigging components including fly rail, truss systems, and chain motors.
- Hangs, focuses, and operates lighting systems.
- Assists with the supervision, instruction, and plans the work of student workers.
- Assists with student employee hiring, training, and the evaluation processes.

- Performs facility operation duties when necessary including but not limited to assisting with room setups, facility opening and lock down, and management of operational student employees.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling eighteen months (18 months) from the categories below:
A. course work in arts, theatre, theatre management, music business, or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
B. work experience in technical operations of event production or closely related experience.
3. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communications skills.
2. Demonstrated experience working within an event production department in a customer service centered event/performance facility where multiple events occur at the same time.
3. Programming and operating knowledge with Electronic Theatre Controls' Unison and Paradigm Architectural Systems and Electronic Theatre Control ION lighting console platforms.
4. Demonstrates a working knowledge with LED and moving light programming.
5. Demonstrates a working knowledge of rigging systems including chain motors, truss, and counterweight rigging systems
6. Familiarity with Vectorworks Spotlight drafting software.
7. Programming and operating knowledge with digital and analog audio consoles. Demonstrated ability to set up and operate audio and video systems including installed and portable audio systems and video switching and projection systems.
8. Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend stage plots, lighting plots and audio input lists.
9. Demonstrated technical troubleshooting skills
10. Demonstrated ability to effectively use Microsoft Office
11. Demonstrated experience with Event Scheduling Software.
