Job Summary
Seeking a paraprofessional who demonstrates leadership and innovation and will uphold the Lab Schools tradition of linking theory and practice. This position will be expected to collaborate with special and general education staff and administration to best meet the needs of students. This position must be child centered and able to support classroom instruction and encourage student learning and independence.
Additional Information
This position for a paraprofessional is to support the teacher of the deaf and students who are deaf and hard of hearing. Current placement is with students ages 3-5 in the preschool classroom, but placement can change dependent upon student need.
This position is subject to summer academic break layoff, mid-May through mid-August.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Possession of a valid Paraprofessional Educator’s License with Stipulations Endorsement as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Skill in signing and/or interpreting and ability to model appropriate use of language and speech when communicating.
Ability to communicate with students and staff using all communication modalities, including spoken language and sign language.
Preferred Qualifications
Past experience working with students with hearing loss.
Knowledge of listening, language, and speech development.
Experience working with equipment to facilitate hearing.
Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule.
Ability to transition quickly between classrooms throughout the building in a timely manner.
Salary
$14.74 - $19.15 per hour, commensurate with experience
