Within the limits established by the Illinois legislative statute, the Board of Higher Education, and the Board of Trustees, the Academic Senate is the primary governing body that recommends educational policy for the University and advises the President on its implementation. The Academic Senate also provides for faculty, staff, and student participation in academic governance.
The Academic Senate has substantial authority in shaping policy across significant areas of the University. Its central role in University governance is primarily recognized in three documents: the University Constitution, the Bylaws of the Academic Senate, and the Memorandum of Understanding. More information is available on the Senate's website.
The Office Administrator for the Academic Senate coordinates and supports the activities and functions of the Senate and its internal committees, supports the Senate leadership, and creates and maintains records of the Senate's activities.
