Job Description
Within the limits established by the Illinois legislative statute, the Board of Higher Education, and the Board of Trustees, the Academic Senate is the primary governing body that recommends educational policy for the University and advises the President on its implementation. The Academic Senate also provides for faculty, staff, and student participation in academic governance.
The Academic Senate has substantial authority in shaping policy across significant areas of the University. Its central role in University governance is primarily recognized in three documents: the University Constitution, the Bylaws of the Academic Senate, and the Memorandum of Understanding. The Office Administrator for the Academic Senate coordinates and supports the activities and functions of the Senate and its internal committees, supports the Senate leadership, and creates and maintains records of the Senate's activities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent
Any one of the following from the categories below:
a. Four years (48 months) of work experience comparable to the third level of this series. This work includes performing a wide variety of office support tasks, which require the use of judgment and initiative and the ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages. Knowledge of the organization, programs, practices and procedures of a department/unit is central to the performance of the duties.
b. Two years (24 months) of work experience comparable to the fourth level of this series. This work includes functioning as an agent of the unit or organization by performing highly specialized administrative support duties. An in-depth knowledge of the organization, programs, policies and procedures of the unit/department is essential to the performance of the duties, as well as the ability to use good judgment, operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages, and to exercise discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in communications.
Excellent proofreading skills, high level of accuracy, and detail-orientation in performing duties.
High level of organizational skills and the ability to multi-task.
Excellent customer service orientation, effective communication skills, and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of clients and staff.
Ability to use existing and learn new computer programs as needed to perform work functions, including word processing, transcription software, data management, survey software, online meeting software, and website creation and management.
Strong commitment to university shared governance.
Salary
$19.52 - $23.04 per hour
