Job Description

General Summary
The Special Education Paraprofessional for Students with Visual Impairments supports teachers by assisting students in various classroom settings. In addition, this individual will assist in preparing materials as requested by the Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments and the classroom teacher.

This position is subject to academic break layoff, mid-May through mid-August.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
Possession of a valid Paraprofessional Educator’s License with Stipulations Endorsement as required by the Illinois State Board of Education.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with children with visual impairments
Knowledge of basic computer programs, such as those used for word processing
Ability to type a minimum of 50 words per minute
Ability to learn and demonstrate understanding of braille
Willingness to be flexible with work assignments and schedule
Familiarity with software and equipment used to transcribe print materials to braille
Ability to access regular print material to format into braille or read to students
Ability to collaborate with others


Salary

$14.74 - $19.15 per hour

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
