Job Description

The Director of Alumni Engagement supports the overall mission of the Office of Alumni Engagement by leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs, events, and services for the alumni of Illinois State University. Specifically, the individual in this position is responsible for leading and implementing the engagement strategies for the over 70,000 alumni who reside in Chicago and the Chicagoland area. This individual organizes alumni networks, creates and facilitates events/communications to advance engagement in Chicago. This position has direct responsibility for the development, management, liaison role and/or oversight for multiple networks of alumni volunteers, including the ISU Black Colleagues Association, Latinx Alumni Network, Chicago Suburban Network and the Chicago Young Alumni Network. This individual is responsible for collaborating with campus departments and units for alumni engagement activities in the Chicago area. This position will assist alumni network and the alumni association in scholarship awards. Additionally, the individual in this position may be assigned responsibility for special projects by the Executive Director of Alumni Engagement.

Additional Information
This is a remote position that will serve the Chicagoland area with monthly trips to campus in Normal, IL. Incumbent will be required to regularly travel within the Chicagoland area. All work must be performed within the State of Illinois. Eligibility is based upon employee performance, appropriate remote working environment, and business needs.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree
2. Three (3) years of full-time or part-time equivalent professional level event management and implementation experience.
3. Excellent analytical, critical thinking and management skills, including skills in creative and effective decision-making and problem identification/resolution.
4. Experience in creating and managing program budgets.
5. Self-motivation and self-starting, excellent time management and organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
6. Excellent communication skills including writing, public speaking, and small group interaction.
7. Ability to interact effectively with persons of various ages and experiences, including handling difficult situations.
8. Competency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with data base and/or customer relationship management software.
9. Ability to work with distractions and handle multiple tasks.
10. Ability to exercise judgment and/or solve problems within generally defined practices and policies of the office and in keeping with professional standards.
11. Ability to travel to campus located in Normal, IL, at least once per month and ability to travel to various Chicagoland locations for events and meetings.

Desired Qualifications
1. Five (5) years of experience in a college/university alumni, development, admissions, or student affairs office or equivalent experience (e.g. not-for-profit).
2. Experience working with and managing volunteers.
3. Previous supervisory experience.


Salary

$65,000 - $80,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
