Job Description

The Applications Analyst is responsible for the development, configuration, support, and maintenance of both custom (primarily low code) and vendor applications for the Division of Student Affairs. As a member of the Student Affairs IT Applications team, this individual ensures that all supported applications meet the functional and technical needs of our customers.

The Applications Analyst is a member of Student Affairs IT, which partners to serve the technology needs for the fourteen departments in the Division of Student Affairs at Illinois State University. Student Affairs IT provides a wide range of support services and is made up of several teams, including Help Desk, Endpoint Support, Systems Support, Applications Support, Security, and Project Management.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Any combination totaling four (4) years from the following categories:

a. Hands on professional level work experience supporting or developing software solutions/applications, databases, interfaces, or integrations.

b. college course work which included Information Technology (IT), or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:

• 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year
• 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years

2. Demonstrated experience supporting line of business applications and systems.

3. Demonstrated experience in development of custom scripts and code, such as the development of web applications, data interfaces, etc.

4. Knowledge of IT infrastructure, including hardware, networking, servers, backups, etc.

5. Demonstrated experience writing technical documentation for various audiences including front-line IT support staff, second-tier IT staff, and end users

6. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to lead internal and external meetings

7. Self-motivated and possesses the ability to determine day-to-day and long-term goals using broad management guidelines.

8. Ability to quickly shift focus to new or different projects, tasks, and technologies as priorities and business needs change

Desired Qualifications
1. Bachelor's Degree in an IT-related field

2. Experience in performing business analysis including how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into application requirements.

3. Technical understanding of application architecture to include application servers, web servers, configuration files, relational databases, interfaces, SQL, and reporting applications.

4. Experience in working with APIs to get, insert, and update data

5. Experience with database technologies MS SQL and the ability to construct, troubleshoot, and update complex SQL queries.

6. Experience with DevOps lifecycle tools like Gitlab.

7. Excellent customer service skills with a strong desire to be a strategic partner to business customers in the Division of Student Affairs


Salary

Starting at $67,000 annual

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials and responses to the supplemental questions. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
