Job Description
The function of the Office Support Specialist is to coordinate a Campus Area Office to coincide with the University and Residence Hall guidelines for the efficient operation of the residence halls. The Office Support Specialist is to work with instruction as the personal assistant to the Area Coordinator, Residence Hall Coordinators, Service Area Coordinators, and Graduate Assistants. A wide variety of secretarial tasks are performed, which require the use of judgment and initiative. Excellent knowledge of the residence halls’ organization, programs, practices, and procedures is essential to performing duties.

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the categories below:
A. College coursework in any curriculum, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. Work experience performing office/clerical activities, including the use of computer systems.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to the second level of this series. This may include work such as performing office support tasks requiring knowledge of general office and departmental procedures and methods, the ability to operate a variety of office equipment, and the ability to operate computer systems using word processing, database, and software packages.
Desired Qualifications
1. Ability to continually upgrade knowledge of the application of equipment available for area use (i.e., Personal Computers, software programs, etc.). Ability to apply the knowledge to instruct in the use of these operations and to solve basic problems.
2. Must be knowledgeable about the area in which you work since the Area Coordinator, Residence Hall Coordinators, and Service Area Coordinators may change yearly.
3. The incumbent must have a positive attitude toward doing the job correctly and safely and knowledge of existing rules and regulations dealing with safe-work practices as outlined by the University.
4. Must have positive regard and concern for the welfare of fellow employees and persons with whom the incumbent comes into contact, including but not limited to students.
5. With the wide variety of responsibilities, the incumbent must be flexible and able to organize a number of seemingly conflicting demands.
Salary
$16.68 – $17.33 per hour
