Job Description

The Associate Agricultural Research Technician is responsible for the coordination of livestock and agronomic operations on the farm. Further the individual helps facilitate research activities and course laboratory activities that take place at the farm. The individual meets with the Department Chairperson and the Farm Manager to discuss and manage budgetary and financial issues. This individual works daily with the Assistant Ag Research Technicians to discuss ongoing production, research, and teaching activities and assign work responsibilities. This individual works with faculty to coordinate management practices for livestock species, agronomic activities, research protocols, and teaching needs involving the farm. Further, this individual coordinates activities with companies who have partnered with ISU to have research or demonstration trials at the farm. This position will act as farm manager in the absence of Farm Manager.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Possession of a valid Illinois vehicle operator’s license(s).
3. Any one or combination totaling five (5) years (60 months) from the categories below:
A. Coursework in agriculture, animal science, crop science, environmental science, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. General agricultural experience as appropriate performing duties comparable to those listed for Level I of this series. This includes work such as performing a wide variety of basic duties in service and support for agricultural research, teaching, demonstration, and production units.

4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.
