Job Description
The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.
This position plays an integral role in accomplishing this goal by training and supervising the culinary staff and directing the preparation and service of menu items in residential dining centers. Our staff utilizes a broad range of culinary skills and equipment to prepare fresh and delicious menu items, frequently participating in display cooking, utilizing woks, salad preparation, grilling, and pizza making to enhance our customers' experience.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Three (3) years (36 months) of general work experience in quantity cooking in a commercial setting.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of experience comparable to that described in the lower level of this series. This work includes higher-level functions such as planning, food procurement, cleaning supplies and equipment, inventory control, menus, keeping records and reports, and staff supervision.
4. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

3. Supervisory and leadership skills; ability to train and instruct employees; ability to organize, prioritize, and assign duties.
4. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce all policies and procedures, especially those pertaining to sanitation and safety.
5. Strong interpersonal skills; cooperative, flexible, and customer-oriented; ability to deal effectively with employee and customer conflicts; the ability to produce results working as part of a team or committee.
6. Knowledge of food values and nutrition; knowledge of materials and methods used in preparing food on a large scale.
7. Ability to read, follow and correct recipes; ability to plan simple menus with managers.
8. Computer skills, including menu management systems; accurate record keeping skills.
9. Current Illinois Food Service Sanitation Manager Certificate.

$22.58 per hour
