Job Description

Eastern Illinois University is seeking candidates for a Curator of Art II – Exhibitions and collection Manager for the Tarble Arts Center (TAC). The successful candidate should be an arts professional with experience in museum collection care and organizing exhibitions. Responsibilities for this position include:

Management of all aspects of collection care, following and implementing accepted museum professional standards and practices.
Provide project budgets for maintenance, establish object conservation priorities, and manage any conservation initiatives or treatments.
Manage database development for all collection materials; responsible for all collection records, object files, digitization of images, software updates and system migrations, and collection website.
Work with TAC Director to organize a series of annual art exhibitions.
Act as registrar: oversee and coordinate duties related to art shipping and transport.
Act as lead/senior preparator overseeing all exhibition fabrication, preparation, and installation.
Represent TAC through public programs, teaching, guest lectures, and workshops.
Conduct research on objects in the collection and provide interpretation for publications, labels, newsletter, social media, and related communications.


Qualifications

Requirements for this position are:

Any one or combination totaling three (3) years from the following categories:
College course work in art history, studio art or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
30 semester hours equals one (1) year
Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months
90 semester hours equals two (2) years
Bachelor’s degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years
B. Work experience that provided knowledge of art history and the techniques used in the preservation, restoration, and/or exhibition of museum collections.

2. One (1) year of work experience in the profession of art curation including the development, storage, security, and exhibition of art objects.

Preferred Qualifications:

Advanced degree in studio art, art history, museum studies, arts administration, or closely related field.

At least 3 years of experience in an art museum, gallery, or related environment associated with an institution of higher learning.
Teaching experience.
Enthusiastic support for serving diverse constituencies.
