Job Description

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 13 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.

The Customer Service Assistant provides general and specialized support to Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality within the Student Services Building. This includes, but is not limited to providing the following:
- exceptional customer service to potential and current customers through phone, e-mail, and in-person
- clerical assistance for various office-related duties including room reservation, mail, and other support as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Any one or combination totaling eighteen (18) months from the following categories:
A. college coursework in any discipline as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
-30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
-Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
-90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
-Bachelor’s degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
B. responsible work experience in customer services, public relations, office administration, business and financial operations, healthcare administration or other closely related experience

Desired Qualifications
1. Experience dealing with customers.
2. Ability to prioritize and manage work.
3. Ability to handle difficult or delicate situations.
4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
5. Ability to learn quickly including industry or department specific software.
6. Excellent communication skills both oral and written.
7. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
8. Ability to manage details and deadlines.


Salary

$14.74- $19.15 per hour

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
