Job Description

To provide police service to members of the University community. The incumbent is responsible for responding to calls for service (emergency and non-emergency), self-initiated police activity, special details, and community involvement.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. Possession of a valid driver's license.

3. No record of conviction of a felony or misdemeanors as identified in the Illinois Police Training Act (50 ILCS 705 et seq.), or a crime involving moral turpitude.

4. Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.

5. Successful completion of the Basic Law Enforcement Officers Training course as prescribed by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, if required by the employing institution. All recruit law enforcement officers who successfully complete this course after September 1, 1984 are required to successfully pass the Law Enforcement Officers Certification Examination. (Applicants lacking such training at time of appointment will be required to complete such requirement during, and as a part of, their probationary period of employment in this class.)

6. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

7. Offer contingent upon a psychological assessment.

8. Offer contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen/test.

NOTE: Persons who have not successfully completed the mandated firearm training course, as approved and recognized by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training & Standards Board, must complete the course during their probationary period. Police officers are not authorized to carry a service weapon until successfully completing such training.

5. Verbal Comprehension (Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.)

6. Information Seeking (Ability to pay attention to detail; gather and arrange information; and prepare complete, concise, and accurate reports.)

7. Conflict Management (Ability to handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts.)

8. Knowledge of areas such as (but not limited to) psychology and customer service

9. Defensive Techniques (Ability to develop and maintain skill in the use of firearms and other defensive techniques (armed and unarmed).)

Comments Fully complete the Education and Work History sections of the application. If you meet the qualifications and skill set required for this position, you will be sent further examination materials for review. Please monitor your e-mail. The initial testing process will include the written portion. The written portion which consists of a 92 multiple-choice integrity exam with a 30 minute time limit and a 75 multiple-choice knowledge exam with a 2.5 hour time limit. The physical fitness test will be conducted on Saturday October 22nd, 2022. Components are a pass/fail. Applicants must pass all four (4) components of the physical fitness test. No make-up dates will be provided for the physical fitness test.

Upon passing the physical fitness test, you will be given a date for the Police Officer Oral Board. Dates for the Oral Board have not yet been established.

Transfer scores for Police Officer from other state universities will not be accepted.

A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Other documentation such as College transcripts (may be unofficial), or Certificate from PTI showing successful completion may be uploaded under Optional Documents, provided to the Testing Coordinator at time of the written or physical agility exam, or sent to Human Resources, Campus Box 1300 Normal, IL 61790-1300.

In order to be eligible for Veteran's Preference points on the exam, appropriate military service documentation, such as a DD-214, may be faxed, mailed, or delivered to Human Resources prior to the examination or provided at the time of testing in order to receive the maximum eligible points:
