Job Description

The Safety, Environmental Compliance Specialist (SECS) works directly with the campus community in the planning and development of fire and life safety initiatives. The SECS also assists with Emergency and Fire Safety programs, procedures and policy initiatives. This employee will report directly to the Assistant Director-Environmental Health and Safety and be assigned to various projects and operations within the responsibility areas.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental engineering, environmental health, safety engineering, industrial hygiene, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field.
2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in a safety or compliance related field.

Desired Qualifications
1. Licensed EMR or EMT B in the state of Illinois or the ability to obtain within the first year of employment.
2. Possess certification of General Safety Professional (GSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) with the ability to obtain Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation within the first year.


Salary

$3700 - $4700 per month

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview.
