Laboratory Manager (Chemistry & Biochemistry)

Eastern Illinois University has an opening for a Program Coordinator – Stockroom Manager in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. This position will be responsible for the Chemistry stockroom and the undergraduate labs. Duties will include:

• Prepare, set-up, and take-down of undergraduate teaching labs.
• Maintain apparatus and equipment used in labs.
• Maintain inventory of chemicals, glassware, and other lab supplies and assist in the annual equipment inventory.
• Coordinate the receival, distribution, storage, and disposal of chemicals, apparatus, and equipment.
• Assist in the purchasing of laboratory chemicals, cryogens, gases, supplies, apparatus and equipment for labs.
• Assist in maintaining an updated log of purchases and organize documents associated with each purchase.
• Train, manage, and assign work to graduate students and student workers in the stockroom.
• Assist department chair with development and implementation of policies and procedures as related to Stockroom and labs.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in a natural science discipline or a closely related area and two years of experience in a laboratory or similar setting closely related to the position
OR
a total of five years (60 months) of any combination of education in a natural science discipline and/or work experience in a laboratory or similar setting related to the position.
2. One year (12 months) of supervisory and/or administrative experience.

(A Master’s degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one year (12 months of work experience).
The preferred applicant will have experience working in a higher education or scientific laboratory setting and have some experience in purchasing.
