Job Description
The Database Administrator works within a team environment to maintain, optimize, and provide technical expertise for enterprise and business level databases. The incumbent oversees Enterprise and/or Business Databases acting as a Primary Administrator for multiple servers and versions of database software and support tools which host data for enterprise and business applications along with custom data warehouses, etc. The primary database systems in our environment include Oracle 12c, Microsoft SQL Server, and MySQL. The incumbent also serves as backup or secondary administrator on other database systems performing only some of the duties outlined for those specific databases.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. Any combination totaling two years from the following categories:
a. Progressively more responsible work experience in an IT related profession
b. College course work in Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 60 semester hours or Associate's degree equals one year
- 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's degree equals two years
2. At least six (6) months of work or classroom experience performing any of the following:
a. Database administration in the MS SQL Server 2012 and newer platforms
b. Database or server monitoring tools for health and performance monitoring
c. Windows Server Administration on Microsoft Windows Server 2012 or newer version with Windows Failover Cluster
3. Understanding of relational database concepts, queries (SQL), and ability to use one or more common query/reporting tools (SQL Developer, TOAD, Cognos, SSRS, Crystal Reports)
4. Ability to perform various system administration duties for assigned databases and servers including installation, configuration, and patch management systems
5. Knowledge of IT Infrastructure Hardware as it relates to DB architecture such as Servers, Storage, Networking, Backups
6. Working knowledge of relational and dimensional data structures
7. Strong customer service skills along with a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process, and product quality and reliability.
8. Strong problem-solving ability
9. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to conduct internal and external meetings
10. Ability to work independently and in a team environment with good communication and collaboration skills
11. Ability to work with considerable latitude and independence of action.
12. Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts verbally and in writing to management, technical staff, and customers in terms appropriate for each audience
13. Ability to analyze large amounts of detailed information, quickly understand complex issues, and break information down into smaller, more manageable pieces
14. System Administrator understanding of common technologies used by database applications such as backups and event monitoring
15. Ability to leverage Microsoft Word, Visio, and Excel
16. Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and changing business requirements
17. Strong project, analysis, and research skills
18. A keen interest in learning new tools and methods
Desired Qualifications
1. Technically focused Bachelor's degree from accredited institution
2. Two years of experience supporting software applications using MS SQL databases, especially higher education administrative systems
3. One year of experience with other relational database technologies, especially MySQL 8.0
4. One year of experience with Windows operating system script
Salary
$52,500 - $62,500 annual
