Job Description
The primary function of this position is to assist the Assistant Technical Director and the Technical Director in providing leadership and supervision to the scene shop and to fabricate complex scenic pieces for a large, ambitious production program.
This position fabricates complex pieces of scenery, trains student employees in the shop, conducts and oversees Job Safety Analysis training sessions on all tools and equipment, and provides complete supervision of the scene shop in the absence of the Assistant Technical Director and Technical Director. This position also performs tool maintenance and material/supply inventory management.
This position is subject to summer academic break layoff, mid-May through mid-August.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Theatre Production or related field
Valid driver's license & ability to load/drive 16ft box truck
Demonstrated experience in Scenic Construction/Fabrication at a high level of craftsmanship and efficiency in wood and metal scenic construction
Ability to ensure a safe, positive, and inclusive working environment
Ability to ensure a clean, organized, efficient, and well-maintained workspace
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in the supervision and teaching of student employees in a scene shop environment
Ability to read and interpret scenic construction drawings and creatively solve problems during the construction process
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with CNC routers, MIG welding, and overhead rigging practices
Experience with tool repair/maintenance
Salary
$16.95 - $22.04 per hour
