Job Description

The Communications Specialist contributes to the development, accuracy, and relevance of on-brand messaging for the Office of Admissions' prospective student outreach and recruitment. The primary focus for this individual will be email marketing, social media, text messaging, and web marketing. This person will engage with our audience ensuring consistency in message and creating a strong community around the Illinois State University brand. This individual will collaborate with various Admissions team roles and campus partners in order to continually develop and improve messaging that is personalized, timely, and relevant to the needs of our diverse audiences. The qualified candidate will possess an overall knowledge of marketing, communications, Customer Relations Management systems, and student recruitment.


Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations or a related field (transcript required - may be unofficial).

2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional experience working in the advertising, promotions, public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field.

3. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others toward a common goal of serving the University and its students.

4. Excellent oral and written communication and organizational skills.

If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, then employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

Commensurate with experience and qualifications

The Civil Service examination for this classification is based on your application materials. No participation other than submission of applicant materials is required from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meet the minimum required qualifications for this position, you will receive a score calculated based on your education and experience, and your name will be placed on the active employment register by exam score. After the application deadline, the names within the top three scores will be referred to the department for interview. The active register for this classification will be voided when the position is filled.
