Program Services Aide
Function of Job
Under general supervision from a designated supervisor, to perform paraprofessional social service/counseling functions in a federal, state, or institutional/agency social and/or educational program.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
A(n) Program Services Aide typically -
- assists in interviewing and assessing the needs of individuals to be served by the program;
- explains program requirements and guidelines to the general public;
- as required by the program, assists in conducting surveys and investigations;
- assists in the development of resource materials;
- serves as a resource person for participants in the program;
- assists in the preparation and maintenance of records;
- assists participants in utilizing referral services;
- performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
- Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
- college course work in behavioral science, social work, sociology, psychology, or a closely related field as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
- work experience that provided a knowledge of human behavior by having demonstrated through public contact the ability to cope with a variety of people, (such as customer service, salesperson, or receptionist).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)
- Knowledge of human behavior.
- Skill in interacting with people from varied social, economic, and cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to organize, prepare, and maintain records, reports, files, and correspondence.
