DESCRIPTIONS OF LEVELS OF WORK


1982
Level I: Assistant Grounds Gardener

Employees at this level perform skilled gardening work. They work under direct supervision from a designated supervisor.

A(n) Assistant Grounds Gardener typically -

  1. performs routine work in planting, transplanting, fertilizing, spraying, watering, pruning, and otherwise tending to the cultivation of flowers, bushes, or other shrubberies and ornamental plants;
  2. assists in the physical upkeep of greenhouses;
  3. supervises employees as assigned;
  4. performs other related duties as assigned.


1981
Level II: Grounds Gardener

Employees at this level perform and are responsible for skilled gardening operations. They work under general supervision from a designated supervisor.

A(n) Grounds Gardener typically -

  1. supervises and performs work in planting, transplanting, fertilizing, spraying, watering, pruning, and otherwise tending to the cultivation of flowers, bushes, or other shrubberies and ornamental plants;
  2. supervises and assists in the upkeep of gardens, flower beds, lawns, and greenhouses;
  3. supervises and trains assistants as required;
  4. performs other related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS


1982
Level 1: Assistant Grounds Gardener

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubs, or trees.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  1. Knowledge of the care of gardens.
  2. Ability to follow simple instructions.
  3. Ability and willingness to work as directed.


1981
Level 2: Grounds Gardener

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience in the maintenance of gardens, lawns, shrubs, or trees.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  1. Knowledge of the care of gardens, lawns, shrubs, and trees.
  2. Ability to supervise.
  3. Ability to follow simple instructions.
  4. Ability and willingness to work as directed.
