Job Description
The mission of Campus Recreation is to enhance the quality of life of our unique members by educating and encouraging active participation in recreational opportunities that develop leadership skills, foster social interaction, and reinforce healthy behaviors. The Assistant Director, Adventure Programs will be responsible for the development, coordination and administration of all adventure programs and services provided through the Department of Campus Recreation.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Recreation, Physical Education, Sport Management or related field.
2. Three (3) or more years of professional level experience in outdoor adventure programming or similar adventure programs; experience in a collegiate environment preferred.
3. Knowledge and demonstrated teaching experience in outdoor adventure activities. Activities may include, but are not limited to camping, climbing, gym climbing, caving, bouldering, canoeing, rafting, backpacking, kayaking, downhill skiing, and cross-country skiing.
4. Demonstrated experience as it relates to managing and operating a challenge course that includes both low and high ropes courses with dynamic and static elements.
5. Demonstrated experience in managing a team of students, employees, or volunteers to accomplish operations.
6. Demonstrated experience in the safe and effective management of an indoor rock climbing facility.
7. Demonstrated experience with the use and maintenance of a broad range of outdoor equipment.
8. Ability to communicate proficiently both verbally and in writing.
9. Demonstrated skills in budget and personnel management.
Desired Qualifications
1. Master's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sport Management or related field.
2. Possess American Red Cross CPR/AED/BBP and First Aid basic certification or must obtain within the first six months of employment.
3. Possess American Red Cross CPR/AED/BBP and First Aid Instructor Certification or must obtain within the first year of employment.
4. Possess American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid Instructor certification or must obtain within the first year of employment.
5. Possess Wilderness Medical Associates Wilderness First Responder certification or equivalent or must obtain within the first year of employment.
6. Understanding of risk management protocols and emergency action plans.
7. Demonstrated experience in supervising or managing full-time personnel.
8. Experience as an instructor in paddle sports, indoor or outdoor climbing, challenge course facilitator, and outdoor living skills.
9. Demonstrated experience leading a broad range of outdoor trips and familiarity with liability issues related to outdoor recreation.
10. Demonstrated experience with equipment procurement and rental operations.
11. Familiarity and comfort with Innosoft Fusion or similar software package.
12. Familiarity and comfort with Microsoft Office Professional 2010.
Salary
Up to $61,000 annual
