Job Description
Under the direction of the Laboratory Director, the Laboratory Supervisor of the Illinois State University (ISU) Laboratory supervises the performance and reporting of diagnostic laboratory tests. This includes the professional activities for the clinical laboratory such as: planning, management, determination of priorities, policies and procedures, and development of new techniques, methods and tests for the diagnosis of disease.
This position incorporates the functions of the Laboratory General Supervisor and the Laboratory Technical Supervisor (as outlined by CLIA regulations). The Technical Supervisor's responsibilities may be reapportioned from the General Supervisory functions, as appropriate.
The purpose of the work is to perform as proficiently and accurately as possible routine laboratory procedures requested by SHS care providers, which in turn aids the expedition of patient care.

1. High school graduation or equivalent.
2. Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing for general supervisory personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Subpart M, Section 493.1461.

A. Five years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to that gained at the Level II of this series.
OR
B. Master's degree in medical technology, biology, microbiology, chemistry, physiology or closely related fields, or a MBA plus a Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology and four years of experience as a clinical laboratory technologist in a clinical laboratory of a hospital or out-patient clinic, two years of which must have been at a level comparable to the Medical Technologist II.
Desired Qualifications
1. University Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Sciences or a closely related field
2. Seven to eight years of experience in a clinical laboratory
3. Three years' experience as a supervising Medical Technologist (within the past five years).
4. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
5. Licensure as required by state and federal laws, including the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA).
6. Knowledge and experience with the use of an electronic LIS (Laboratory Information System)
7. Experience in the bidding process for reference/external laboratory contracts.
8. Experience with academic collaboration
NOTE: This is a high level professional position which requires complete knowledge of medical laboratory science, new trends, techniques, and advances and the individual must be highly skilled with training and experience, not only in Medical laboratory science, but in management, supervision, evaluation, quality control, and interpersonal communication.
Salary
$3,322 - $5,158 per month
