Grounds Equipment Mechanic

Function of Job

Under the general supervision of a designated supervisor, to service, repair, and maintain grounds equipment.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

A(n) Grounds Equipment Mechanic typically -

  1. overhauls internal combustion engines up to 100 horsepower;
  2. repairs and replaces worn and broken parts on the equipment as necessary;
  3. constructs or modifies equipment as needed;
  4. services equipment on a periodic maintenance basis;
  5. does welding required to maintain equipment in running order;
  6. maintains a working knowledge of the operations of equipment serving a department;
  7. diagnoses and corrects defects of grounds equipment;
  8. assists in conducting efficiency, power consumption, and other tests on various machines;
  9. performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Four (4) years (48 months) of work experience and/or technical training in the servicing, repairing, and maintenance of grounds equipment.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair of grounds equipment.
  2. Ability to operate shop machines and tools.
