Job Description

The Department of Event Management, Dining, and Hospitality is one of 12 departments within the Division of Student Affairs. It provides the campus community and guests with high-quality, efficient, and innovative event services and dining options in a variety of settings dedicated to accentuating and enhancing the campus experience in a diverse community.

The Assistant Technical Director assists with the execution and management of all phases of event production in Braden Auditorium, Bone Student Center, and other University facilities as assigned. Additionally, assists with the oversight and execution of all daily production and technical functions. Duties include but are not limited to:

- Reviews and implements the day of show production schedule. Serve as customer, patron, and departmental liaison for production needs.
- Install and maintain lighting, sound, and audio-visual equipment and other production equipment as directed. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues. Performs preventive maintenance programs. Assists with the planning and implementation of equipment purchases and projects.
- Perform set up and operation of audio/video systems, sound consoles, and microphones. Operates rigging components including fly rail, truss systems, and chain motors. Hangs, focuses and operates lighting systems. Isolate, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical issues.
- Supervise, instruct, and plan the work of student workers. Participates in the hiring, training and evaluation processes.

Qualifications

1. Any one or combination of the following types of preparation:
(a) Eighteen (18) semester hours of college credit for course work in theater design and technology (such as courses in stage lighting, stage rigging, stage craft, scene design, sound systems, or technical direction - verify with transcript);
OR

(b) Eighteen (18) months of work experience in technical operations of theatrical productions;
OR

(c) Any combination of training and experience, as defined above, that totals eighteen (18) months, computed on the basis of one (1) credit hour being equivalent to one (1) month of experience (verify with transcript).

2. If this position is Security Sensitive or if you are subject to a criminal background investigation based on University policy, employment is contingent upon you passing a satisfactory criminal background investigation. You may not begin work until the criminal background investigation results have been received and cleared by Human Resources.

3. A final candidate must complete a post-offer pre-employment physical exam. Employment is contingent on the successful result of the pre-employment physical.

Salary

$16.29 - $18.69 per hour
